Facebook Fan Page Rookies Unite!

Having 5 solid years of Facebook experience wasn’t enough to equip me to jump through all the new hoops Facebook mukkie muks are throwing at us willy nilly.

At first I was frustrated at the whole Facebook Fan Page mess and just turned my back.  As true with every grass roots marketer, there is always another marketing avenue needing my attention so it was easy to focus elsewhere.

Actually it was beneficial for me.  I tightened up my branding message on my blog, http://AttractYourSoulMateNow.com.  I created a store front, created a new opt in gift (a 21 day audio course) and set my intention on making visitors feel at home on my site.

Now that I have reached the bottom of my to do list (NOT!), I have decided to take the plunge and birth my new Facebook Fan Page.

It is not easy and I am having to put time in searching through help menus, however that is not the worst of it.  What is humbling is to appreciate how much time and effort successful Facebook Marketers must put in on their page.

Here are a few of my Facebook Fanpage role models:

https://www.facebook.com/ladygaga

LOL!  My total of 3, as of this morning, fans isn’t even a drop in the ocean yet…but it is the THOUGHT of fans that is planted in the universal soil of possibility.  I will be keeping you all posted as I plow myself through the maze and get my Facebook Fanpage up to speed.  I am excited about using it as a public meeting place for special guests, contests and of course sharing what it is that YOU are passionate about.

You, Angel, are a dreamer and that is why I love you.  You have a vision and want to make the world a better place through your service or product.  Please feel free to visit my baby page and add your comments with a url to your website.  I am honored to share your work with my fans!

Here is the link to my baby Facebook Fan Page and next I am going to try to figure out how to add a Facebook Badge to the site!  Wish me luck!

Nudity and Oil….The Secret To Writing Compelling Headlines

Written By: ♥ Your Blog Angel ♥ - Feb• 29•12

Nudity and Oil: Naughtiness Always Makes People Peek

I am delighted that you are reading this post. Helps me prove my point.

Headlines with a bit of naughtiness get noticed.

Cheryl Hines was on the Ellen Show this morning talking about her new hit TV show, Suburgatory. I always loved her on Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO, and her performance as new and hot-to-trot divorcee Dallas Royce on the new ABC sitcom is delicious.

As her interview closed, she teased about the content of the series’ upcoming episode. She talked about “real sexy fantasies about Jeremy Sisto” and then right before she left the stage, she said….

“and nudity and oil….I’m just saying….”

Want to guess how many of Ellen’s millions of fans will be tuning in to that episode? (8:30 est on ABC February 29, 2012 and available online at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1741256/….just thought I would make it easy for you!)

So what does this have to do with you, the newbie blogging marketer? Everything!! We all know that sex sells so pulling in your readers with a provocative headline is always a good idea. Especially if you can create a practical post with genuine value for your audience.

The bottom line is that without a good headline in your emails or blog posts…nobody will notice you and that makes building an expert platform near impossible. Luck is on your side though…you live in the internet age and a simple Google search opens a library right on your desktop.

I use Google daily as my modern day encyclopedia. I type my requests into the search window stating exactly what I need. Today to support this article, I typed in “How Do You Write Compelling Headlines?” Look what treasures I found:

1. Top hit on Google: “How To Write Headlines That Work” on copyblogger.com. This is a fantastic article…it is #1 hit in the big game afterall. Not only does it promise info on creating “a compelling headline that must promise some kind of benefit or reward for the reader, in trade for the valuable time it takes to read more,” it goes on to list 8 surefire types of headlines with examples.

2. “I just can’t do it. I am not clever enough to think of good headlines.” Some of you are whining…I can just feel it. Well…this post is just for you! Thanks to Mark Thompson of stayonsearch.com, this post has 150, count them, 150 compelling headlines that work. See, no excuses!!

Here are Mark’s top ten to get you started

1. # Tips To Simplify ______________

2.  Greatest _________ Tips of All Time

3.  Avoid ______________ Disasters

4.  ________________, What It Can Do For You

5.  # Things You Didn’t Know about ______

6.  # Reasons to Hate _________

7.  #Amazing Blogs about ________

8.  # Secrets about __________

9.  How Does ______ Work?

10. How to be Great at _______

11 through 150….

When you go to Mark’s site and check out the rest of the list….be sure to leave him a warm thank you in the comments. From one blogger to the next, comments are always received as a virtual hug!

3. There were over 2 1/2 million hits for my query. If you are a rookie headline writer, spend some time browsing through the Google search results and get some schooling.

Once again, having a mini budget when it comes to marketing is no excuse for a languishing blog. Get up and get going and get yourself a great headline for your next post.

For me, many times the headline comes first. I write regularly for experts on YourTango.com and recently this headline popped into my mind: “Might As Well Face it….You’re Addicted to Shoes” Curious? Google awaits!

Why Your Blog Is Not Making Money

Written By: ♥ Your Blog Angel ♥ - Feb• 09•12

Like it or not, we live in a Google Ruled world.

When people consider hiring you for your business or service, 99 times out of 100 they are going to google you. If you have no data online that connects you with your expertise, they will pass you by.

Think about it. Let’s say you want to find a photographer for your wedding. You meet a photographer at a party and he seems nice. You go home and google him and there are several entries with examples of his work and testimonials, doesn’t that make you more likely to consider his service?

What if there was not one single website with his work posted. Would you hire him?

What do your prospects find when they google YOU?

Blogs are priceless marketing tools but all blogs are not created equal. You have something to say about a topic you are passionate about and you want to make money online.  Yay!  So what style blogger do you fancy yourself to be?

Style of blogging?

Yes. You have to decide what you want your blog to accomplish. Here are your blog style choices:

1. Journaling Blog Style: This is the most common blogging style. In this style, the blogger opines about life from her perspective. The posts are random ramblings about what is going on in the writer’s life. The agenda for these blogs vary.

One friend of mine has an anonymous blog where she writes about her battles with obesity. She rants and raves and clears her mind. She doesn’t care if anyone sees it or responds. Because all blogs are connected through the internet, random readers find her blog and comment occasionally, but she doesn’t want to create a community.

2. Essay Blog Style: This is also a common blogging style. Historical, travel, political and social commentators frequently write in this academic style. These posts tend to be heady and sophisticated. Typically the blogger fancies himself a “true writer” and the rules of grammar and language usage dictate the blog content.

Essay bloggers love the instant publish capability of their blogs. Some are in the process of publishing their books in the “real world” and the interminable waiting of traditional publishing frustrates them to no end. Their blog is like an extension of their book and that satisfies them.

3. Shared Hobby Blog Style: We all love this style of blogging. Fashion blogs and cooking blogs are good examples of this style. The blogger is passionate about sharing their passion and that is what they do, some on a daily basis.

In the movie Julia and Julia, there is a classic example of this style. The author went on a cooking journey through Julia Child’s cookbook with the plan of reporting on her growth as a french chef. While the happily ever after of her blog leading to a book and then movie starring Meryl Streep was no doubt thrilling. Her original intent was just to share her hobby.

4. Promotional Blog Style: This is Your Blog Angel’s favorite. When a blogger wishes to promote a business idea, product or professional expertise, she is clear on her intention to create a blog that invite readers to join her and eventually purchase a product or service from her.

The promotional style is completely different than the other three styles. However, when a promo piece is well crafted, the reader doesn’t notice the difference. Promo blog writing is a fine art…balancing calls to action with real information with value.

5. The Zero Blog Style: Zero blog = zero online credibility = zero monetizing potential.

Many internet/blog newbies are so eager to monetize their blogs that they focus on selling before they focus on creating relationship with their readers/prospects.

This is a huge mistake. Your prospects must believe in you and your product before they buy from you. A carefully crafted promotional blog is the fastest way to build that relationship with your audience.

Let me use myself as an example. I own a website for single women who wish they weren’t. It is a Soul Mate Attraction Blog. If I meet someone who is interested in joining and give them my card, I hope they do google me.

My three years of blogging on the topic of breakup recovery and finding new love gives the social proof many need to give my services a try.

Promotional blogging is the answer. If you want to make money with your blog, here are the essential keys:

1. Set your Intention: What kind of blog are you creating? Review the blog styles and commit to learning all you can about how to write promotional material.

2. Create Credibility: Get 25 blog posts published that are descriptive of your expertise. A mix of facts, entertainment, resources and success stories will serve your readers as well as making them want to bookmark you and come back again and again.

3. The 80/20 rule: The biggest difference between promotional writing and the rest is the 80/20 rule. Savvy marketers are making money despite economic hard times for one reason only. When they write the focus of the blog is 80% about the reader and only 20% about themselves, their products and their services.

4. Problem/Solution Focus: The single most important thing that successful promotional bloggers do better than any other blogger is that they intimately understand the problem their prospect is trying to solve.

Your prospect is searching the internet for one thing and one thing only….an answer. The only way they can find you and hire you to solve their problem is if you write about it. And yet….I rarely read any copy that communicates that the author truly feels the pain of their prospect. Without this problem centered approach, money is left on the table…every time.

5. Ignorance is No Excuse: If this is all Greek to you but you want to monetize your blog, don’t give up….get educated!  In this case what you don’t know really is hurting you. If google doesn’t know who you are, your business/book/practice is going to languish. A first step? Google: How to blog.

Book Promotion Brilliance: Christy Whitman’s Winning Idea

Written By: ♥ Your Blog Angel ♥ - Jan• 12•12

Book promotion on your agenda?  Are you writing a book, book proposal or scrambling to sell books stacked in your basement?

Few newbie authors realize that writing the book is just the beginning.  I review hundreds of blogs, books and author proposals.  Most emails never get opened, most links in book promotion emails are not clicked.

I tease my clients…. “Will She Click?”

Can the subject line or email copy make me click through to see the offer?  It doesn’t happen often.  Today, a book promotion email came across my desk that made me click and inspired me to share it here.

Author and Coach Christy Whitman has created a book promotion idea that is unique, fun and puts her book in the hands of readers who need it.  It was so terrific, I am quoting it right here:

Subject Line:  I’ll scratch your back… if you scratch mine :-)

Hi Catherine,

Okay, so I need to ask you for your help…

Don’t worry, there’s something amazing in it for you too.

Watch this short 3 minute video to find out how you can
really, really, really help me out right now.

It’s very time sensitive and if you are willing and able to
support me in this one thing, I’ll give you a gift that I’ve
never given anyone else… essentially free.

Please go here and watch this video asap.

Thanks in advance and I hope you can help :-)

Imagine and Enjoy,
Christy

Blog Magic Ahead in 2012

Written By: ♥ Your Blog Angel ♥ - Jan• 02•12

January 1, 2012

I am glad to be here.  Four years ago, cancer interrupted life and I wasn’t so sure I ‘d be here.  Today I am super excited to be alive right now.  Everything in me tells me that 2012 is going to be a great year.

I love blogging.  So much so that I now have a flock of other bloggers working with me and learning the ropes.  I have some changes ahead and one of them is changing my own blogging style.

My goal is 100 words.  100 words to inspire, educate and entertain.

Commit and write every day.

Thanks for reading!
